Don’t be fooled by the sign outside that mentions “Cafe” and “Takeout.” Although this casual Italian restaurant makes it very easy to take home prepared foods and desserts for your own pleasure, having company for dinner or bringing a picnic to the beach, this is a full-service, sit-down restaurant that should be on your regular list. Here is what you really need to know – good food, reasonable prices and bottomless glass of house wine. That is a formula for success so, a lot of people frequent D’Amico & Sons as their dependable neighborhood restaurant for lunch, dinner and Sunday Brunch.
Although the atmosphere is totally different and more casual, it may say something to you about the level of quality and attention to detail if I tell you that D’Amico & Sons is owned by the same folks that bring you Campiello on Third Street South (See the review for Campiello on this website). You might have experienced them in Minneapolis, too.
All of the food that we’ve tasted at D’Amcio & Sons is distinctly fresh and homemade including the soups (just like Momma used to make). You will actually be offered anchovies as an option on your Caesar salad. The entree highlights for us have been the Lasgna al Forno, the Garlic Shrimp with Spaghetti, Shrimp and Asparagus Risotto and most recently the Oven-Roasted Salmon with Basil Pesto. The pizzas baked in a wood-fired oven are excellent, too.
The wine list is limited but, if you are drinking wine then you’ll be taking advantage of the bottomless glass of totally respectable house wine at $7.59 for red or white wine. Your glass will be replenished regularly without having to ask so, it’s up to you to raise the white flag when you’ve had enough.
