We have a winner!!! Last night we had a wonderful evening at Mino next to Tin City. Our suggestion is to go there now because when this restaurant is “discovered” during season you will be waiting in line. Mino is just a few months old now and they have it together already. The restaurant is named after the owner’s nickname as a little boy growing up in Italy. When you go, most likely you will meet him because he makes a point of stopping by all of the tables personally to make sure that you are happy with your food (he is the chef as well as the owner). Check out the website link below to learn more about him and the restaurant. There is one short sentence in his biography on the website that says it all, “My life is in every plate.” I can tell you that it’s true and you can feel it.
Starting with two appetizer specials that are not on the regular menu was a great way to get things going. One was a generous plate of fried calamari, zucchini and banana peppers served with a tomato sauce that screamed “home made”. The other was a very creative and interesting stuffed olive appetizer. Next we shared a classic Caesar salad and opted to top it with fresh anchovies.
With a growing reputation as having great pizza, all three of us ordered pizza. The reputation is deservedly earned. Fresh ingredients and some of the best crust ever. You might have even walked by some of the fresh herbs used in the kitchen because there are planters on the porch and outside dining deck with herbs. The pizza crust is excellent – the secret family recipe, the special Italian flour, the care and handling as well as the special brick oven all contribute to crust that is the right thickness, the right texture and actually tastes great on its own. Our selections were the Melanzane e Zucchini, the Nonno Attilio and the Funghi, Scamorza, Crudo e Tarufo. This is where we make you go to the website to see exactly what those choices included. Great pizzas all around. Value, service, cozy, fresh homemade food and genuine care and attention.
You can do yourself a huge favor by requesting Sammy to take care of you when you go. He was quick to greet us and we could feel his genuine hospitality right away. Sammy was very knowledgeable about the specials, the menu and the pizzas. His contribution as the server really enhanced the whole experience.
